Background & Empire Music

Johan William Fjellström was born in Norrköping and has been based in Stockholm since 1995. He is a songwriter, music producer, mixer, creative director and international music manager. In 1998 he became a professional songwriter at Universal Music and went on to establish Empire Music Production and The Living Room Studio as a creative home for songwriting, recording, production and mixing.

His work covers the complete journey from the first song idea to a finished release: composition, lyrics, arrangement, recording, vocal production, mixing, artist development, repertoire, positioning, project leadership and international coordination. This combination of creative and commercial experience has allowed him to guide artists and projects through every stage of development.

Songwriting & record production

Johan has written, produced, arranged and mixed music for artists including BWO, Alcazar, Markoolio, Bosson, Lutricia McNeal, Victoria Silvstedt, Miio, Timoteij, Zara Larsson, Star Pilots, Peaches, West End Girls, Camilla Brinck and many more. His published catalogue contains more than 80 titles and includes numerous gold and platinum records.

Major achievements include Markoolio’s double-platinum “Ingen sommar utan reggae”, Miio’s gold-selling “När vi två blir en”, the gold-selling Big Brother single “MediaHora” and K-otic’s double-platinum project in the Netherlands. “Ingen sommar utan reggae” spent five weeks at number one in Sweden, 14 weeks in the Top 5 and has now logged 29 weeks across its chart runs. It also brought an official Grammis nomination for Song of the Year. Johan’s credits on the recording include composer, lyricist, arranger, producer, recording engineer and mixing engineer.

Record label, artist development & people leadership

As the founder and operator of his own record-label activities, Johan has worked across repertoire, signing and developing talent, production planning, marketing, positioning and release strategy. His projects with SuperBoy, West End Girls, Miio and Verona demonstrate an ability to see each artist’s potential and create the right team, material and direction around them.

Johan’s work is deeply people-focused. He is experienced in building trust between artists, songwriters, producers, record companies and international partners, creating an environment where strong personalities and different skills can work towards a shared goal. This human understanding is central to both his creative results and his ability to lead an independent music business.

Melodifestivalen, television & entertainment

Johan has contributed to six songs in Melodifestivalen, including “La musica” with Verona, “Higher” with Star Pilots and “Stormande hav” with Timoteij. His television work also includes music for TV3’s Fame Factory and the pioneering Big Brother release “MediaHora”, connecting record production with some of Sweden’s largest entertainment formats.

Together with producer Joakim Udd, Johan co-created Star Pilots and developed the group’s sound, songs and visual direction. The gold-certified “In the Heat of the Night” became a major summer hit. “Higher” reached number six on the Swedish singles chart, appeared at number 36 on the national year-end chart and advanced to Andra chansen. It was followed by releases including “I’m Alive” and “Heaven Can Wait”. Timoteij’s “Stormande hav” also reached Andra chansen and entered Svensktoppen at number eight.

Film, games & international projects

His work extends beyond traditional record releases. Johan wrote music for the Swedish film Blodsbröder and produced music for EA Games’ The Sims 2 in California. He has managed artists and coordinated music projects across the United States, Asia, the United Kingdom, Russia and several European markets, working with record companies, publishers, artists and local partners.

The Diamond Dogs & creative collaborations

Johan has worked closely with The Diamond Dogs on extensive audio, film and live entertainment productions. These projects have included collaborations involving performers such as Shirley Clamp, Arja Saijonmaa, Nanne Grönvall, Suzanne Reuter, Linda Bengtzing, Charlotte Perrelli and Sissela Kyle.

The Living Room Studio

The Living Room Studio in Stockholm has been the centre of Johan’s creative work: a focused environment for artists, songwriters and producers to develop ideas, record vocals and instruments, shape arrangements and complete professional mixes. Through Empire Music Production, he continues to combine hands-on music creation with creative leadership, artist development and international project management.
